Whether you want to scale sheer rock faces or just learn the basics of climbing, there are plenty of opportunities in St. Anton am Arlberg: With craggy rock faces and cliffs, demanding boulders and a varied via ferrata to choose from, you could spend weeks conquering the Climbers Paradise at St. Anton. And those stunning views, reaching from the Lechtal and Allgäu Alps over the Stubai and Ötztal Alps to Verwall and Silvretta Ranges will take your breath away.
Take a walk along the ‘The Iron Road‘: The Arlberg Via Ferrata is roughly three kilometers long and sees you rise to just under 2,500 meters in altitude, so you can bet that exposure, big drops and fine views are going to be on the cards. If you’ve got the nerve for it, there aren’t many better ways to explore the mountains.
The route sees you scramble and climb along steep rock faces, over narrow ledges and across rugged, craggy ridges with the help of steel cables (which you’ll be clipped into), metal rungs, ladders and pegs. As you go, you’ll cross the summits of Knoppenjochspitze, Lisunspitze and Weißschrofenspitze. The start of the Arlberg Via Ferrata is accessible from the Valluga Grat gondola top station or from the top station of the Kapall Chair Lift. The entire experience should take you roughly four to five hours, depending on experience, fitness and weather conditions. If you’re not experienced on via ferratas and this type of Alpine terrain, you should hire a local mountain guide, as this isn’t the place to learn new skills without expert guidance.
Schnann Gorge and Climbing Terrain
The wild and romantic Schnann Gorge looms above the tiny village of Schnann – a stunning natural landmark which, with much love and dedication, has been made accessible again to hikers in recent years.
The Schnann Gorge is recommended not only for hiking – it is also worth a climbing trip. You can climb in the climbing terrain at the entrance to Schnann Gorge.
Whether you’re rock climbing or bagging a peak, St. Anton am Arlberg is a climbers’ paradise. Climb and abseil some local peaks, such as the 3,148-meter summit of Kuchenspitze or the seven climbing terrains in vicinity to Darmstädter Hut. All in all, 58 routes can be found close to this Alpine shelter. Whatever your choice, the stunning vistas from our natural climbing playground will reward you for your efforts.
Less experienced climbers are recommended to climb the mountains with highly trained and experienced guides who first teach safety, judgment, risk awareness and prevention. During your climbing adventure, the guides foster a love of the vertical and Alpine environment and create an educational experience that will prepare you to venture out on your own in the future.

Unleash your inner Tarzan (or Jane!) in this Aerial Forest Park, located on the banks of Rosanna River. Test your balance and agility by working your way from platform to platform high in the trees, which are connected by cable, wood, rope and zip lines to form bridges. Each bridge presents a different challenge of how to get to the next platform. A series of eight bridges forms an “aerial trail” throughout the forest, crossing hanging wooden blocks, climbing ladders and more, installed 6 to 8 meters off the ground. More ›
